Wanted man assaults officer during arrest
On April 8, 2025, a Kinston Police Officer was conducting a foot patrol in the 100 block of North Independence Street when he observed James Edgeston (70 of Kinston). The officer was aware that Edgeston had an active Order for Arrest and attempted to take him into custody.
During the encounter, Edgeston pushed the officer to the ground in an attempt to flee. The officer quickly regained his footing and successfully apprehended Edgeston.
Edgeston was served with the outstanding Order for Arrest and additionally charged with Assault on a Government Official. He is currently confined at the Lenoir County Jail under a secured bond.
