Bruce Hill, who has served nearly 20 years on the Lenoir County Board of Education, is running for re-election in 2024. Hill, a Lenoir County native, has spent five terms working to improve the education system, advocating for students, teachers, and staff in the community he’s called home his entire life.
At the Lenoir County Board of Education meeting held on Monday, December 11, 2023, Bruce Hill emerged as the new Chair, while WD Anderson secured the position of Vice Chair.
Their jobs were different – teacher, teacher assistant, bus driver, custodian, school administrator, district administrator – but they all shared a dedication to making sure students had a good school year. For nearly a thousand years, when their careers are added up.
Lenoir County Public School employees who together have amassed 806 years of service to schools and school children were honored Wednesday for their loyalty, their longevity and, as Superintendent Brent Williams said, for doing “that which has never been done before.”

At the September 13th Lenoir County Public Schools board meeting, Chairman Bruce Hill admonished the public on when it’s appropriate to contact a school board member. He cited a chain of command, the need to go straight to the source, and emphasized the school board’s primary goal is to be policymakers. However, Mr. Hill seemingly chastises parents, guardians, and stakeholders for attempting in any type of way to hold school board members accountable. In an eye-opening statement, Mr. Hill says about the school board, “[we] aren’t as versed in education” and “we as board members we don’t know what goes on at the schools.”
In a unanimous 7-0 decision, the Lenoir County Board of Education voted Monday evening to allow K-12 students a four day school week beginning next semester. According to Superintendent Brent Williams, applications for the four-day school week should be online Tuesday. In other business, Bruce Hill was voted as Chairman and W. D.
