Greene County Commissioners passed the FY 2022-2023 budget. The July 1st effective budget increases spending on Emergency Services, keeps the property tax rate at $0.786 per $100 of valuation, and gives all employees at least a 5% cost of living raise.
Lenoir County Commissioners approved this coming's years budget, which keeps the property tax rate the same, and adjusts pay for county employees.
Franky Howard will step down next month as Jones County Manager and assume the role of CEO for ONWASA, the primary water utility in Onslow County. His career with Jones County started in 2005 as the Agriculture Field Crops Agent with the NC Cooperative Extension Service. In 2007, Howard was the youngest County Manager in the state. “There is no doubt that he will continue to do great things in his future endeavors, just as he has done for Jones County,” said County Commissioner April Aycock. “No matter who his replacement is, that person will definitely have some big shoes to fill.”
Lenoir County Manager Michael James started in his new position April 1.
