Southeastern North Carolina has a unique opportunity this fall to leverage an available $11 million to be awarded by the Golden LEAF Foundation for projects that will boost job creation and economic investment, workforce preparedness, and agriculture.
Today, the Golden LEAF Board of Directors awarded $1,080,800 in funding to support projects through the Open Grants Program and $562,678 in increased Disaster Recovery Grant Program funding.
The Golden LEAF Scholarship application for the 2022-2023 academic year is now available at CFNC.org. A total of 215 awards will be offered to first-time recipients from qualifying rural and economically distressed or tobacco-dependent counties. Applications are due March 1, 2022.
Today, the Golden LEAF Board of Directors took action in response to House Bill 1043. The bill includes $125 million to provide grants to entities for the purpose of making loans to assist small businesses affected by the economic impact of COVID-19. Effective today, loans made from the program to small businesses will include a limit on the number of employees per business, a minimum interest rate for the first six months of the loan term, and an increased time for repayment.
Today, Governor Cooper issued an Executive Order allowing furloughed employees who received compensation to also be eligible for unemployment compensation. He also addressed the need to make more funding available for small business owners through the Golden LEAF Foundation’s Rapid Recovery Program.
The money distributed by Golden LEAF is for immediate relief efforts. This includes, but is not limited to temporary housing, food, water, home repair, and replacing personal property.
