Truck and trailer stolen from Pink Hill; Suspect arrested after chase and crash

A 20-year-old Hertford man was arrested earlier this week after a felony larceny of a truck and trailer from a Pink Hill farm resulted in a chase and a crash in Richlands.

At around 2 a.m. on Monday, witnesses observed a theft of a truck and trailer from a farm on Jonestown Road in Pink Hill. The stolen truck and an SUV left the farm and traveled towards U.S. 258 South; the victim of the crime located his vehicle soon thereafter as it was being driven south in Jones County and he called 911 to report the theft.

The vehicles continued south into Richlands, where the Richlands Police Department attempted to stop the truck. A chase began, the driver of the truck wrecked and he then ran away from the crash; he was not apprehended.

However, an individual involved in the larceny parked the SUV at a gas station near the location where the stolen truck wrecked. The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office located the SUV and detained the driver, Nashad Elliott.

Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office investigators arrived and searched the SUV, where evidence was collected and a stolen license plate from a different location on Jonestown Road was discovered.

Elliott was charged with aiding and abetting felony larceny, conspiracy to commit felony larceny and misdemeanor larceny; he was placed in the Lenoir County Jail under a secured bond. The LCSO and victim of the crime would like to issue a huge thank you to the witnesses that notified law enforcement.

The other suspect remains at large. If anyone has any information on this incident or individuals involved, they are asked to call the LCSO at 252-559-6118 or Lenoir County Crime Stoppers at 252-523-4444.
