Students at North Lenoir High School have earned a national award for community service from Family, Career and Community Leaders of America.
Greene County Schools took part in the North Carolina Science Festival. The Science Festival is a month-long state-wide series of events that are coordinated and promoted by the Morehead Planetarium and Science Center in Chapel Hill. On Friday, April 19, Greene County Schools named Ms. Joanne Duncan as the 2024-2025 Teacher of the Year. Ms. Duncan teaches Culinary Arts at Greene Central High School. She was wonderfully surprised and brought to tears with the news during an event her students were catering for the Greene County School Board of Education and Greene Central High School student leaders.
On Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at approximately 1 p.m., members of the Kinston Police Department responded to a report of an individual armed with a handgun on the campus of Kinston High School. Upon receiving this information, the school resource officer and staff members initiated lockdown protocols, and numerous officers responded to the scene to locate the individual.

The LCPS crisis management team is at Contentnea-Savannah K-8 School today to provide additional counseling and support services for students and staff members and will be there as long as needed.
Snow HIll - Snow Hill Primary recently named 1st Grade Teacher, Margaret D’Jernes as this year’s Teacher of the Year. She graduated in 2017 and joined the staff at SHP immediately following. She shared that she completed her clinical teaching experiences at SHP and fell in love with the community so as soon as she had a chance she wanted to return to Snow Hill.
