Tonya Adams is a woman on a mission to make her community a better place. As the owner of The Beauty Box and The Exchange, she has made significant contributions to her community, earning her a place among the influential women of our community. She started Bingo night at The Exchange, which has benefited Lucky Cats, SAFE, Mary's Kitchen, Lenoir County SPCA, and the Kinston High School band.

Barbara Sutton, the President of the Kinston Lenoir County NAACP, founded Christ The Caring Ministries, a street ministry, and worked to ensure that all the effort was focused on Christ rather than herself.

BREAKING: LCSO Officer-involved shooting on Saturday results in death

An officer-involved shooting resulted in the death of Spencer Jackson, 31, of Kinston, in the early hours of Saturday morning. According to Lenoir County Sheriff Jackie Rogers, Jackson was a known suspect pursuant to a narcotics investigation. During the traffic stop on U.S. 258 North, Jackson left the scene and was pursued by narcotics division deputies to a residence on Hullwood Drive, where he entered a building on the back side of a residence on Hullwood Drive. Jackson came out pointing a long gun at deputies and shots were fired.

Linda Rouse Sutton is a woman who has made significant contributions to Lenoir County. As the Lenoir County Commissioner Chair, Sutton has taken on numerous leadership roles and has played an essential part in positive changes in the community. “A female always has to prove herself first before even beginning to become effective,” said Sutton. “Some are very receptive, and others believe women have no place in politics.”
