Snow Hill Primary gives out a weekly award called "Terrific Kid" awards. Each teacher at SHP chooses a student who has been responsible, shows great character, or has reached a personal goal. Local educator receives $10,000 scholarship
Christel Carlyle has received the Zora Ellis Scholarship from The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. The Honor Society for women educators promotes excellence in education and personal and professional growth of women educators. By providing graduate scholarships to members, the organization emphasizes leadership development for its more than 50,000 members in 17 countries.

Correspondence from across the country helps Northwest kindergartners fill in a map of the USA
The kindergarten students at Northwest Elementary could color the state in on their map of the USA – if only they had a postcard or letter from someone who lives there. The littlest state is also – as of Thursday morning – the last, the missing piece in the students’ quest to collect a mailing from a resident of each of the 50 states, a project that aims to teach them about the geography of the country and some interesting facts behind each state name.
