Players and staff from the Down East Wood Ducks will spend a day improving the playing fields at a local park.
Facilities for youth baseball and softball at Fairfield Park in Kinston will receive a boost thanks to the initiative created by Minor League Baseball Charities. According to a press release, MiLB Charities is a “501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization dedicated to giving back to and enhancing the communities our teams call home.”
The initiative, known as MiLB: Refresh, will see MiLB teams across the country work to enhance local baseball and softball communities. At Fairfield Park, Wood Ducks players and staff will join with the Kinston Department of Parks and Recreation to refurbish dugouts, install a warning track and take part in other restoration and beautification projects around the park.
ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment is the main sponsor for MiLB: Refresh. Additional support for the Fairfield Park project has come from the Texas Rangers Foundation and the Paint Station in Kinston.
According to Alexa Kay with the Wood Ducks, the entire team will take part in the event, and both of the fields at Fairfield Park will “get a little facelift.”
Work will begin on Tuesday, May 28 at noon at Fairfield Park, located at 800 Greenbriar Rd. in Kinston.
