Lenoir County Government and the N.C. Global TransPark create consolidated Economic Development Office

KINSTON — Effective Aug. 10, The Lenoir County Economic Development Office merged with the North Carolina Global TransPark (GTP) to create a joint economic development agency.

This new joint office was created to improve collaboration between Lenoir County Government and the GTP, which will better position our community to attract investment and retain quality and high-paying jobs for the region.

In July, Mark Pope — the Economic Director for Lenoir County from 2005-18 — assumed the role of Vice President of Economic Development at the GTP; Keely Koonce is now serving as the Economic Development Specialist.

The positions will provide enhanced economic development services to Lenoir County and the GTP.

“We are excited to announce this merger and believe it is an innovative approach to collaborative economic development,” Lenoir County Board of Commissioners Chair Linda Rouse Sutton said. “The Global TransPark is a tremendous asset to Lenoir County and Eastern North Carolina.

“Through this partnership, we hope to be even more effective in attracting and retaining industry into our communities, while also providing economic opportunity for residents.”

In partnership with the GTP, Lenoir County is continuing to work with counties in the area to explore a greater regional economic development concept.
