The following restaurant inspections were conducted by the Lenoir County Health Department:

Byrd's Restaurant

196 Hwy 58S, Kinston

Date: 4/4

Score: 99

Observations:

Some items in two-door fridge are less than 41F.

Buckets of sanitizing solutions need to be labeled.

Bojangles

7858 Hwy 70 W, La Grange

Date: 5/31

Score: 96

Observations:

Refrigerated drawers at grill are not holding less than 41F.

Lavatory drain leaking at sandwich prep area.

Inner lid on 1 door prep fridge separated and needs repair.

Insulation is exposed and food splash is occurring and cannot be adequately cleaned.

Clean inside shelving in drive through hot hold cabinet, 2 door freezer, inside and exterior, under grill on table.

Floors, walls, and ceilings need better cleaning. Standing water on floors.

Lighting in drive-through corner not working.

Arby's

4173 W Vernon Avenue, Kinston

Observations:

Paper towel dispenser at front lavatory not working and no towels available.

Dishwasher still not sanitizing.

Food is not accurately dated.

Lots of flies present.

Storage bins for utensils below salad prep area are getting food spilled in them.

Water standing in bottom of 2 door prep fridge. Rusty nail in ice machine holding shield up

Cleaning needed on rolling bread rack, parts of slicer, shelving in walk in, fridge, interior and exterior of doors and handles of 2 door freezer, walls, and hot hold units over prep station.

Ceiling repair needed over 3-comp sink.

Observations:

The pan and tongs used for storing chicken patties in 1 door countertop fridge are dirty.

The batter dip for fried chicken was 74-76F.

Can of fly spray was laying over cardboard fry cartons.

Many flies present.

Clean sides of fryer, 2-door freezer, gas piping, inside freezer, countertop under microwave, microwave, walk-in shelving, and any rusted area. Hot hold cabinet has dirty standing water.

Doors of dumpster open.

Jo's Cafe

Observations:

Pan of link sausage sitting on counter 30-45 minutes.

Bologna in fridge was out of date.

Inside of 2 door freezer needs better cleaning.

Fixtures outside restroom need cleaning and hot water needs repair.

Some floor tile issues make it not easy to clean.

Observations:

No certified food protection manager.

Hamburger and fried pork chops not being held at correct temp.

Chicken was being thawed directly in sink.

Fixtures in mens bathroom need cleaning.

Faucet is corroded and in poor repair.

Some damaged floor tiles. Ceiling peeling over dry storage.

Wall needs cleaning beside hood.

Certified food protection manager was not on site during operations hours.

Insecticides and chemicals stored among food items such as gloves and take out trays.

Bottles of chemicals are not labeled.

Employees were not wearing effective hair restraints.

Bracelets, rings, etc. are prohibited.

Better fly control needed.

Slightly damp wiping cloths laying on work surfaces.

Person in charge is not well versed in operational procedures for food service operations.

No paper towels in bathroom lavatory.

Raw ground beef stored with raw chicken.

Pans and lids not cleaned well.

Some foods were not date marked.

Slaw was 10 days old.

Consumer advisory not posted.

Wiping cloths stored in Pine Power, not sanitizer.

Sink drain overflows and needs repair.

Repair leaking fixtures.
