North Carolina Pollinator Conservation Alliance holds 5th Annual Pollinator Field Day
Join the North Carolina Pollinator Conservation Alliance for our 5th Annual Pollinator Field Day on September 24th – we will be *in-person* at the Cunningham Research Station in Kinston! There will be four stations featuring experts to teach you about North Carolina native habitat for pollinators, native bees, and pesticide stewardship. We will have light refreshments along with various displays that will feature honey bees, habitat enhancement, and more. We will also have free native plants to send home with participants at the end of the event! All are welcome to attend – you won’t want to miss it!

10:00 a.m. – Welcome
Station 1: Pollinator Scouting and Identification (Field)
Participants will walk through pollinator plantings with the intent of netting a variety of insects. You’ll learn to identify some of our common pollinators and have time for Q&A with our bee expert.

Station 2: Pollinator Habitat (Field)
Learn about the pollinator plantings at the Cunningham Research Station and how you can cultivate your own native, pollinator habitat plots from seed.

Station 3: Protecting Pollinators when Using Pesticides (Building)
Plant issues often lead to a lot of questions. What is happening to my plants? Should I apply a pesticide? Is this pesticide damage I’m seeing? This presentation will cover everything from pest identification, developing a plan for pest management, diagnosing pesticide-related damage, and the basics of integrated pest management.

Station 4: Bee Biology, Life Cycle, and ID (Building)
Learn about the fascinating habits and life cycles of different types of native bees. Participants will also have the chance to see native bees and their unique characteristics through a microscope.
