Obituary: Thomas Allen Meeks
Thomas Allen Meeks, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many, passed away on July 29th, 2024 in Kinston. He was born on December 22nd, 1947 in Greenville to the late Willie and Lina Meeks. He was proceeded in death by his brother, Ricky. Tommy leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion that will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Tommy's life revolved around his family. His wife Becky was the love of his life; their bond was unbreakable and their adventures together were countless. One of their favorite pastimes was packing up the camper and heading to Emerald Isle – a tradition filled with laughter, joy, and undoubtedly some head-shaking moments along the way.
As a father to Lisa (Rob), Michael (Kristine), and Kari (Tim), Tommy took immense pride in watching them grow into remarkable individuals. His dedication knew no bounds as he supported them through every triumph and challenge they faced. His role as Diddy brought him immeasurable joy; he reveled in being there for his children at every turn.
For over four decades, Tommy dedicated himself wholeheartedly to DuPont - an unwavering commitment that spanned name changes but never faltered in its loyalty.
Yet out of all his titles throughout his lifetime, none compared to the sheer delight he found in being called Papa by Trey, Grace, Leighton, Thomas, Londyn, Tripp and Tanner – each one holding a special place within his heart. His presence at school events or cheering from the sidelines at sporting competitions became synonymous with Papa's unwavering support for his grandchildren. If distance kept him away physically, he would call or text just to ensure he didn't miss any details about their lives.
In honor of Thomas Allen Meeks' extraordinary life, a Celebration of Life will be held at the Meeks home, on Friday August 2nd from 4-6 p.m., where friends, family and loved ones are invited to gather and share memories of this remarkable man. Tommy’s wish was to have his body donated to science which was fulfilled through the Willed Body Program at High Point University. His name will be publicly displayed on the Tree of Life located outside the Anatomy Laboratory in Congdon Hall.
Wearing Carolina blue, the color closest to Tommy’s heart, is encouraged as we celebrate a life well-lived and a soul deeply loved and missed by so many.
The impact Tommy made during his time on earth is immeasurable. His kindness, dry humor and unconditional love touched the hearts and souls of all who knew him. He will be dearly missed but never forgotten, and neither will his firm hand shake.
