Kinston man charged with 16 counts of fraudulent checks

On June 16, 2024, SECU reported that 19-year-old Jailyn Cannon of Kinston had deposited 16 fraudulent checks via mobile deposit. The Kinston Police Department's Investigation Division initiated an investigation into the matter. As a result, investigators obtained warrants for Cannon, charging him with 16 counts of uttering a forged instrument and 1 count of obtaining property by false pretense.

On July 30, 2024, KPD's C-Squad located Cannon and served the warrants without incident. He was subsequently taken to the Lenoir County Jail, where he was held under a secured bond.
