Midway Mart Announces Second Location in Deep Run

DEEP RUN — Midway Mart, a local convenience store known for its first location in Pink Hill, announced plans to open a second location in Deep Run. The new store will include a gas station with a grill, ice machine, ATM, and multiple fuel options, including regular diesel, non-highway diesel, and non-ethanol gas. The expansion marks the company's continued growth in the region, following the successful launch of its first store in July 2022.

Rodney Smith, owner of Midway Mart, confirmed the news through a Facebook post and discussed the decision-making process behind the expansion.

"We knew Deep Run and the surrounding area needed something like Midway Mart," Smith said. "I was approached by the landowners to do something like this, so I had a feasibility study done on it. It came back very positive, so our family wanted to do it."

The new location will be designed with truckers in mind, offering ample space for them to refuel, park, and grab a meal. According to Smith, the store will create approximately 15 jobs, including positions for cashiers and cooks.

Smith also provided a timeline for the project's development. "Construction should start around the end of September once all permits have been pulled," he said.

Midway Mart's first location at 8176 Hwy 258 South in Pink Hill has been well-received by the community since it opened in 2022. The addition of a second location in Deep Run is expected to further serve the needs of local residents and travelers alike.

This expansion reflects the growing demand for convenient and accessible services in the southern most part of Lenoir County, as well as Midway Mart's commitment to meeting those needs.
