LCPS selects 2024-2025 Principal of the Year
Lenoir County Public Schools is happy to announce Mr. Rashard Curmon has been selected as our 2024-2025 Principal of the Year.
After a long and selective process that started back in May, Mr. Curmon received the award at Northeast Elementary School in front of school staff and LCPS leadership on August 21st. He will also be recognized at the September 9th regularly scheduled Board of Education meeting.
“The Principal of the Year award is a testament not just to my efforts, but to the collective dedication of our incredible teachers, staff, scholars, families and district leaders,” Mr. Curmon said. “Leading this school has been an inspiring journey, and this recognition fuels my passion to continue pushing our school community to limitless potential.”
Mr. Curmon is the principal at Northeast Elementary, joining LCPS in 2019 and bringing with him several years of administrative experience. A New Bern native, he served as principal at Washington County Early College High School and assistant principal at Tarboro High and W.A. Patillo Middle. Mr. Curmon has also been an instructional coach and taught in Greene County for several years.
"I was very pleased to hear that Mr. Rashard Curmon was chosen by the selection committee as the LCPS Principal of the Year for 2024-2025,” Superintendent Brent Williams said. “He is an outstanding leader who will represent his school and our district very well in this capacity.”
Mr. Curmon earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Elizabeth City State University, received his Master of Art degree in teaching from East Carolina University and a masters in school administration from N.C. State University.
He gets to proceed to the regional round of competition for the statewide Principal of the Year Award, which recognizes principals at the local, regional and statewide levels.
“I am certain that he will continue to excel,” Superintendent Williams said.
Since the program started, there have been 40 North Carolina Principals of the Year, over 250 regional recipients and more than 3,000 local awards granted.
