Lesley Rigsby: Who Am I
Have you ever asked yourself “Who am I.” For some this is and easy question, but for others not so much. Typically, when people think about introducing someone- It goes something like, “This is Lesley Rigsby. She is the Center Director at the EPIC Center in Kinston. She is a registered nurse at UNC Health Lenoir, in the Family Birth Center. She is married to Paul Rigsby, etc.” Even though this is all true- does it really define who I am? Absolutely not---
It is my desire for you to understand who you are in Jesus Christ. We are more than a position or title we hold at work and our past mistakes don’t have to define us. The popular song “Made for More” by Josh Baldwin- so beautifully helps us see “I know who I am, because I know who you are”. The you Josh was speaking of is Jesus. By knowing Jesus Christ and believing in Him, I have learned I am so much more than the positions I hold or the mistakes I made in my past.
I lived for many years letting a decision I made in my teens define “Who I was”. I walked around with shame and regret believing I could never be forgiven. It took me over 10 years to understand, I was made for more.
Are you walking around asking yourself, who am I? Have you let a position or title you had define who you are only to lose it? Has a past mistake haunted you and caused you not to believe in yourself? If so, I have good news for you. None of those things truly define who you are.
When I truly trusted and believed in the promises of God’s word, I learned these things about “Who I am”.
I am child of God. John 1:12 "Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God". If you believe in Jesus Christ & receive him as your Lord and Savior- You become a child of God. Because I am a child of God, I am a joint heir with Jesus Christ- Romans 8:17- “Now if we are children, then we are heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.”
I am His masterpiece. A masterpiece is a work of outstanding artistry, skill, or workmanship. Ephesians 2:10 “For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” I never thought of myself as a masterpiece, but when I grabbed a hold of it, I understood God created me. He molded me and He does not make anything but masterpieces. I could clearly see- I am fearfully and wonderfully made-Psalm 139:14 says, "I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well". I was created in the image of God. Genesis 1:27- “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. I am Redeemed. I have been saved or delivered from sin or its consequences”. Ephesians 1:7 “In
him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace” Because of the precious blood of Jesus- ALL my sins have been washed away.
I know longer have to walk around with shame or regret. I am free from Condemnation. Romans 8:1“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit”.
By learning “Who I am” I can boldly walk in knowing the truth that I am chosen, forgiven, and free.
Until next time remember you are loved, you are special, and you are not alone!
