Letter to the editor: Be the Why

Letter to the editor: Be the Why

As I sat thinking about what I should write to help launch our annual campaign, what inspiring words I felt most fit now and this time…the message quickly became very clear to me.  To be honest, the last few years have been tough.  We are still adapting to life post-Covid and the changes that came from that, both good and bad.  I have personally struggled with my own health this year, which is not easy for this ambitious, high-energy girl!

It is very easy to allow the fog of busy schedules and stressful times overshadow what we are truly called to do.  Which brings me to this message today, for you my friends and community members:

We have to “Be the Why.”

Be the why someone smiles back at you today.

Be the why a family is supported after a home fire.

Be the why food and shelter are provided to those who need it most.

Be the why our seniors are served and loved in their final years.

Be the why someone’s really bad day turns into an amazing day.

On behalf of our United Way, we thank you for your tremendous support over the last 93 years and we look forward to another great year of serving our community with you.  Please know that this message is not meant for just United Way and our mission; we have so many great leaders and fellow nonprofit organizations who are working so hard for you every day.  Let’s stand together and not forget our true calling as citizens and neighbors.

“Be the Why.”

Molly Taylor has served as Executive Director of Lenoir/Greene United Way since 2018.  The nonprofit organization provides funding to 17 local organizations through its annual campaign in the counties of Lenoir and Greene in the areas of education, health, and financial sustainability.

Neuse News is a locally-owned small business startup in downtown Kinston. Our goal is to provide free, hyper-local news to Lenoir, Greene and Jones counties. The kind of news our grandparents read in a format fit for today's times.

We provide this by having supportive advertisers and we encourage you to click on their ads, shop with them, and eat with them. Every bit of financial support is important to help us sustain free, hyper-local news.

Please consider supporting Neuse News with as little as $5 one-time or via a monthly option. Every little bit helps us, help you.
