The following inspections were conducted by the Lenoir County Health Department:

Lenoir County Shrine Club

1558 Hwy 70 E, Kinston 

Date: 6/07

Score: 98

Observations: 

Slaw stored in deep plastic tubs made night prior to fish fry at 4 pm, holding a temperature of 41- 45 degrees.

Missing thermometer 

No dish plate available for recording max and min thermometer for dish machine.


Queen Street Deli & Bakery 

115 S Queen Street, Kinston

Observations: 

Carts are rusty, gasket in lift top doors are torn/coming off. Shelves inside RIC are rusting.

Build up observed on shelves, in the bottoms of cooler units and on gaskets.

Drain plug missing from dumpster.

 Dust still present on hood cover and a/c units/fans. Food debris is gathering under equipment.


R-Mart Inc. DBA The Farmhouse

3486 Old Hwy 11, Deep Run

Observations: 

Container of chili/hot dog sauce was reused and contained pimento cheese. Single use articles shall not be reused.

Cutting board on prep unit. is stained and not easily cleanable. 

Observed inside of reach in prep unit with food and food residue, gaskets have build up on both under counter prep units.


Royal Farms

4206 West Vernon Avenue, Kinston

Observations: 

No cold water was provided at either sink. -No barrier used to turn off faucet when employees washed their hands.

Food employee had on a jeweled bracelet and hair-elastic on wrist.

The utensils and storage surface must be cleaned and sanitized every 4 hours. Single pair of tongs handing of the handle of the alto-shaam warmer box.

Cutting board at cold holding prep unit scored and stained.

Sufficient drainboard space shall be provided. dirty dishes were being stored/stacked inside the hand sink next to the 3-compartment sink.

Flour and food residue on sides of fryers, behind equipment, under cutting boards, etc.

Three compartment sink sprayer hangs below the flood rim. Replace with shorter arm or keep sprayer on hook.

Provide a covered waste bin in female restrooms. Covered trash can in the individual stalls, right side stall cover broken off.

Dumpster missing drain plug.

Build up of flour, grease, food, dirt, etc around and under/behind equipment due to continuous use. 

Designate and use an area for the orderly storage of employees' clothing and possessions. Employee cell phone being charged on the prep unit counter next to the hot holding drawer unit, across from the cold holding prep unit right as you enter the kitchen area from customer area.

Smithfield's Chicken 'N Bar-B-Q 

4483 US Hwy 70 W, Kinston

Observations: 

Heavy fly presence in the facility.

Wet wiping cloths shall be held in sanitizer in between uses. Damp cloths observed through facility including on the edge of front hand sink and on service tray near order station.

The top and bottom right side True cooler doors have torn gaskets. True cooler is located next to drive through drink station.

Slight buildup on outer shield of ice machine.

Doors to dumpster left open.

Smiths Cafe

2424 Hwy 258N, Kinston 

Date: 6/15

Score: 99.5

Observations:

Reach in with eggs has badly rusted 'floor'. Equipment shall be in good repair and free of rust.

Gaskets on reach in refrigerators throughout need additional cleaning. 

Walls needs additional cleaning especially under the prep sink on the far side of the cook line.

Observations: 

Employees with hair unrestrained. Hair shall properly be restrained to prevent contamination.

Cracked shelving units in walk in cooler and loose/torn gaskets on cooler doors. 

Residue and food splatter visible on kitchen walls, especially around prep unit area.

Lights are out over work areas and a light is out under the hood. Replace lights to ensure lighting intensity is met.

Observations: 

Several flies through out facility.

Boxes of frozen food stored on floor of walk in fridge. 

Observed employee not wearing a beard guard.

Ice scoop handle resting in the ice. Wendy's disposable cup being used to scoop ice.

Walk in cooler door is in disrepair. Repair efforts made on door but does not meet ANSI standards/ is not smooth/easily cleanable.

Observed debris on gaskets and equipment through out facility.

Wall by soda syrup station covered in orange soda syrup splatter.

Areas designated for employees to eat and drink, shall be located so that food, equipment, linens, single service/use items are protected from contamination. Employee phone on prep line. Large speaker set up on prep table above the oven.
