Tragic fire claims one life in pollocksville

Pollocksville, NC - On Saturday, January 11, 2025, at approximately 8:26 AM, multiple emergency agencies responded to a devastating structure fire in Pollocksville. Despite the dedicated efforts of first responders, one individual tragically lost their life in the incident. The other individual was taken to Carolina East Medical Center and transferred to UNC Chapel Hill to receive medical treatment for their injuries sustained.

The fire, which fully engulfed the residence, prompted a swift response from Pollocksville Fire, Maysville Fire, Trenton Fire, Township 7 Fire, and Pumpkin Center Fire departments. Emergency medical services from Jones County EMS, Maysville EMS, and Pollocksville EMS were also dispatched to the scene to provide medical assistance and support.

After an extensive investigation, conducted by the Jones County Emergency Services Office, Jones County Sheriff’s Office, NC State bureau of Investigation, and the Office of the State Fire Marshal, the cause of the fire has been determined to be accidental. It was triggered by overloaded, daisy-chained power strips within the home. This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers posed by improper electrical practices and the importance of fire safety precautions.

Local fire officials urge community members to take proactive steps to prevent electrical fires, including avoiding the use of multiple power strips connected together and ensuring that electrical devices are used safely and within their capacity limits.

The name of the victim is being withheld at this time out of respect for the family.
