Kinston Department of Fire and Rescue posted the following on their Facebook page: Its with great sadness to announce the passing of Jack Mozingo. Jack began his fire career with Kinston Department of Fire & Rescue in July 1993 and moved his career to Greenville Fire Rescue in 2007.
At 7:20 Saturday morning, Lenoir County 911 received a call reporting smoke coming from a home at 715 W. Washington St in Kinston. Fire department personnel arrived on scene to find active fire conditions. Crews are still working to bring the fire under control. W. Washington Avenue and Dewey Street are closed to all traffic until further notice.
Nearly every week, a first responder is killed while attempting to clear a traffic incident in the United States. As part of Crash Responder Safety Week (CRSW), Nov. 14-18, North Lenoir Fire & Rescue is highlighting the critical role each of us plays in keeping responders safe as they work to assist motorists and keep our roads clear.
Last night, NLFR responded to a reported structure fire. Upon arrival, crews found a hoverboard on fire. The hoverboard was quicky removed from the home and extinguished. Thankfully, there were no injuries or serious damage reported.
North Lenoir Fire & Rescue recently received a donation of oral rehydration solution (ORS) from DripDrop, a leading electrolyte powder company, to help provide critical dehydration relief to its responders during extreme summer heat, wildfire season, and other strenuous response situations. The donation was made in partnership with the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC), the leading association representing the volunteer fire, EMS, and rescue services.
On Friday, March 4th, North Lenoir Volunteer Fire & Rescue took delivery of 48 smoke detectors from the North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal. The smoke detectors were donated as part of the Office of the State Fire Marshal’s Smoke Alarm Canvassing Grant, a program designed to reduce fire deaths and injuries in high-risk fire areas.
The Lenoir County Sheriffs Office is investigating a shooting incident that occurred on Monday night at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Fred Everett Road in Kinston. Sheriff Ronnie Ingram states, “We do not believe there is any public threat. Witnesses have told us the suspect(s) fled in a vehicle from the scene after the shooting.” In regards to this investigation, we would ask the residents in this immediate area that may have camera footage of Fred Everett Road or the surrounding area to notify the Sheriff’s Office to aid in the identification of any suspect vehicles. It is believed that the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle traveling towards Alton Phillips Road on Fred Everett Road from Hwy 258.
North Lenoir Fire & Rescue recently purchased a new rescue boat thanks to a grant from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. With the support of local Firehouse Subs restaurants and donations from patrons, the department applied for and was awarded a grant for a Zodiac inflatable rescue boat and trailer, valued at more than $28,000.
