In December of 2022, KPD's Violent Crime Action Team began a drug investigation related to the distribution of crack cocaine by Rodney Meadows (37 of Kinston). The investigation led to Meadows being charged with 34 felonies. On June 14, 2024 Meadows pled guilty in Lenoir County Superior court and received 11-18 years in prison.
Officers from C-Squad and the Violent Crime Action Team attempted to check out with two subjects for a trespass violation. When the offenders saw the officers, they fled on foot. Officers apprehend the offenders and located 2 firearms.
In January, 2024, KPD's Violent Crime Action Team (VCAT) responded to drug complaints related to Iverson Ward. VCAT Detectives conducted an investigation and on February 27, 2024, obtained a search warrant for Ward's residence.
Detectives with KPD's Violent Crime Action Team conducted a traffic stop involving Qwashaun Herring. During the traffic stop, detectives attempted to serve Herring with an Order For Arrest. During the arrest, Herring resisted and assaulted the detectives. Herring was taken into custody and charged with the following:
KPD's Violent Crime Action Team heard several gunshots coming from Richard Green Apartments. Detectives arrived on scene and encountered Deante Best. During the encounter Best was placed under arrest for Felony Carrying a Concealed Gun.

KPD's Violent Crime Action Team with the assistance of the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office's SCARR Unit obtained a search warrant for 206 Heard Street. The search led to the discovery of a firearm and narcotics. Calvin Holloway was arrested and placed in the LC Jail for the following charges:

Members of KPD's Violent Crime Action Team made contact with Tyrone Koonce (31) and a 16 year old parked in Richard Green. During the encounter detectives located cocaine, MDMA (ecstasy), marijuana, and 2 concealed handguns. The investigation revealed that 1 of the firearms was stolen from Kinston.
On March 7th, KPD's Violent Crime Action Team located and apprehended a wanted fugitive, Alvion Burney, with the assistance of the NC SBI and KPD's D-Squad.
