Sen. Jim Perry advocates tailored solutions and open discussions at Chamber event

NC Senator Jim Perry (R - Lenoir, Beaufort, and Craven) was the guest speaker this morning at the Lenoir County Chamber of Commerce “Wake-Up Lenoir” Legislative Breakfast, addressing pressing regional matters and advocating for tailored solutions and open dialogue. The event covered topics such as education, mental health, healthcare, and medical marijuana.

North Carolina's April County and Area Employment Figures

Unemployment rates (not seasonally adjusted) decreased in 98 of North Carolina’s counties in April 2023 and increased in two. Scotland County had the highest unemployment rate at 6.8 percent while Buncombe County had the lowest at 2.4 percent. All fifteen of the state’s metro areas experienced rate decreases. Among the metro areas, Rocky Mount had the highest rate at 4.5 percent while Asheville had the lowest at 2.5 percent. The not seasonally adjusted statewide rate was 3.1 percent.

Youth media camp returns to eastern North Carolina

Kinston native and award-winning film director Resita Cox and her team return to Princeville this summer to host their second Freedom Hill Youth Media Camp- a 4-week documentary production program connecting NC students to Princeville's Black history through conducting interviews, learning oral history skills, exploring archives and learning the basics of documentary filmmaking culminating in a short participatory documentary about Princeville’s annual Homecoming Celebration.
