Public Notice: Call of special information meeting

A special information meeting regarding Trenton Volunteer Fire Department, Inc., a North Carolina Corporation, is hereby called to be held on the 3rd day of April, 2023 at 7:00 pm at the Trenton Volunteer Fire Department, Inc. at 436 Hwy. 58 North, Trenton, NC in Jones County. The purpose of the meeting is to provide information regarding the corporation’s plan to obtain a grant from Rural Development of the United States Department of Agriculture for the purchase of miscellaneous fire fighting equipment.

Obituary: Joseph Lea Callaway

Joseph Lea Callaway, 57, died on March 7, 2023, at his home in Kinston, NC. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. March 25, 2023, at Gordon Street Christian Church, (118 E. Gordon Street). John Hood: States Should Lead on Parental Rights

A few weeks ago, three members of the North Carolina Senate — Amy Scott Galey of Alamance County, Lisa Barnes of Nash County, and Michael Lee of New Hanover County — filed a state Parents’ Bill of Rights to ensure that local schools respect parental authority to direct the education, development, and medical treatment of their children.

Obituary: Betsy A. Barbee

Betsy A. Barbee passed away at home on March 20, 2023. Her First Presbyterian Church family was very important to her and a memorial service will be held at the church on Friday, March 24, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation to follow. At other times the family will be at the home of Morry and Leigh.
