Jesse Vernon Braswell, 92, of Grifton, passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at ECU Health. A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 23, 2023, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Howard Carter Funeral Home. A Graveside service will be held on Monday, July 24, 2023, at 10:00 am at Princeton Cemetery with Pastor Stanley Buck, Dr. Charles Russell and Reverend Larry Carter officiating.

During the month of July 2023, members of the Kinston Police Department’s Investigations Division and the departments Violent Criminal Action Team were able to obtain vital information in the case. This information led detectives to obtain warrants for Ernest McCotter (31) of Hampton, VA and Deshawn Maye (30) of Kinston for the murder of Jerome Gadson on March 14th, 2021.

On July 20th, 2023, at approximately 9:00am officers with the Kinston Police Department responded to a report of an armed robbery that occurred on the 2100 block of West Rd. in Kinston N.C. Upon arrival officers met with the victim who described two subjects that had robbed him of his belongings and ran into a residence on West. Rd.
