Snow Hill - Throughout this summer students from Greene County Schools have been busy with summer learning and experiencing everything from Legos to white water rafting to cooking and robotics. Teachers and administrators have worked to build amazing experiences for students from all grade levels.
In a pioneering move to promote transparency and foster stronger ties with the community, the Kinston Police Department (KPD) will launch its first-ever Citizen's Police Academy this October. Spearheaded by Sergeant Julian Walker, the 8-week program aims to create a platform for citizens to interact with law enforcement, learn about the dos and don'ts of the law, and gain a deeper understanding of the inner workings of the police department.

This is an update to the death of a child that occurred in Lenoir County on Nov. 26, 2022. On Friday, the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office obtained arrest warrants for Brittany Evon Strickland, 32, and Michelle Evon Strickland, 50, both of Jackson County.
On Saturday, the CSS Neuse Museum staff will be holding an antique roadshow event at the museum. The staff can’t place value on the items, but the staff will be there to help identify any old antiques you may be wondering what they are. The event is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. to about 4:00 p.m.

Pursuant to G.S. 115C-518 and 160A-269, the Lenoir County Board of Education hereby gives notice that it has received an offer to purchase the Teacher’s Memorial School property owned by the Lenoir County Board of Education. The offer to purchase is in the amount of ten thousand dollars ($10,000). Notice is hereby given that prior to July 26, 2023, at 4:00 PM, any person may raise the bid by not less than ten percent (10%) of the first one thousand dollars ($1,000) and five percent (5%) of the remainder ($9,000). Thomas Bursell “Nick” Thompson, Jr., 70, passed away Sunday, July 9, 2023. A memorial service will be conducted Friday, July 28, 2023, at 11am in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service.
The Down East Wood Ducks will host this year’s Kinston-Lenoir Battle of the Badges on August 19th-20th, 2023. This two-day softball tournament will be held at Historic Grainger Stadium beginning at 8 am on Saturday.
Officers from C-Squad encountered Jarviel Johnson (23) during a narcotic investigation. During the encounter, Officers located a concealed firearm, During the discovery of the firearm, Johnson began actively resisting. Johnson was arrested and placed in the LC Jail under a secured bond.
Lenoir Community College Welding Instructor Justin Harvell of Goldsboro was recently selected by Welding Equipment Manufacturers Committee (WEMCO) as the recipient of the 2023 Excellence in Welding Award in the Educator category, a distinction awarded to one individual across the country.
