Obituary: James “Dexter” Barnett

James “Dexter” Barnett, 73, of Jackson Heights, peacefully passed away early Sunday morning, February 11th at his home. The services to remember, honor, and celebrate his life will be held at Jackson Heights OFWB Church on Friday, February 16th. Visitation will be from 5:00pm – 6:00pm, and the funeral service will follow. Dexter’s good friend, the Rev. Terry Dennis will be officiating the service.

40 MPH inland winds forecasted amid coastal storm

Minor to moderate coastal flooding is forecast for soundside locations from the northern Outer Banks southward to Frisco. Additionally, wind gusts of 45-50 mph are likely along the coast and near 40 mph for inland areas. A widespread 2-3" of rainfall is expected but a flash flood threat remains negligible.

Snow Hill Primary "Terrific Kid" Awards

Snow Hill Primary gives out a weekly award called "Terrific Kid" awards.  Each teacher at SHP chooses a student who has been responsible, shows great character, or has reached a personal goal.  On Fridays, these students are presented with an award and are congratulated for their hard work.  Below are Snow Hill Primary's last Terrific Kid Awards!

Public Notice: Juvenile Crime Prevention Council Request for Proposals

The Lenoir County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council announces the availability of $247,183 for 2024-25. Program applications are due by 5 pm on March 1, 2024. Only local public agencies, 501 (c)3 non-profit corporations and local housing authorities will be considered for funding. Lenoir County duo arrested in stolen vehicle with firearm

C-Squad officers received information related to a vehicle stolen from Wilmington NC. Officers located the vehicle traveling on HWY 11 and initiated a traffic stop. The driver, Sklyer Potter (22, Lenoir County) and Andrea Milhoan (35, Lenoir County) were taken into custody. Milhoan, a convicted felon was also in possession of firearm. Both offenders were placed in the the LC Jail for the following:
