Snow Hill Primary awards Terrific Kids

Snow Hill Primary gives out a weekly award called "Terrific Kid" awards.  Each teacher at SHP chooses a student who has been responsible, shows great character, or has reached a personal goal.  On Fridays, these students are presented with an award and are congratulated for their hard work.  Below are Snow Hill Primary's last Terrific Kid Awards!

Southern Bank named Forbes’ Best Bank in America

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C., February 21, 2025 — Forbes has named Southern Bank the Best Bank in America.  The 16th annual America’s Best Banks list assesses 200 publicly traded banks, and this year the top spot  went to Southern Bank, which has more than 60 branches across North Carolina and Virginia and $5  billion in assets.  

Opinion: Budd and Tillis should protect rural North Carolina from more medical isolation

 Recently, rural Eastern North Carolinians have been put through the wringer. Many of us are still recovering from Hurricane Helene and trying to make ends meet after losing our homes and businesses. But while the storm rightfully got a lot of attention, there are other ways that life has become more difficult for rural communities here – particularly when it comes to accessing healthcare – and few people are paying attention. 

Obituary: Myrtle Barrow McKeel Heath

Mrs. Myrtle Barrow McKeel Heath, age 107, passed away peacefully Sunday evening, March 2nd, 2025, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro. Funeral Services will be held 2 PM Thursday, March 6th, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service with Pastor Mike Parks officiating. Interment will follow at the Snow Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Nancy Reaves Justice, native of Mount Olive and former Kinston resident, died Thursday, February 27, 2025 in Williamsburg. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Olive, NC with Dr. H. Powell Dew, Jr. officiating.
