10. Election 2020: Candidate filings
Here is a complete list of the 2020 candidates for Lenoir, Greene and Jones counties. The date of the general election is Tuesday, November 3, 2020. To determine the nominee for certain contests, there is a primary election on Tuesday, March 3, 2020.
9. Public notice: Notice of public hearing - Lenoir County
The Lenoir County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing during its regular meeting which is scheduled as follows: Monday, January 6, 2020, at 9:00 am at the Lenoir County Courthouse. The Board of Commissioners intends to consider awarding an economic development incentive to Aircraft Solutions USA, Inc. which is investing in real and personal property with a potential value totaling $99,770,000 taxable amount ($118,000,000 total investment). The value of the incentive is based upon the appraised value each year as appraised by the Lenoir County Tax Administration Office.

According to a press release from United States Attorney Robert J. Higdon, Jr., he announced that in federal court, before Chief United States District Judge Terrence W. Boyle, twelve men and one woman were sentenced for their roles in selling heroin, cocaine, crack cocaine, and guns to undercover agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (“ATF”) in 2018.

3. Lenoir County Sheriff's Department: Felony child abuse arrest
According to a press release from the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Department, on December 10, 2019, Lenoir County Deputies responded to a residence on Hwy 258 North in Kinston for a reported disturbance. Deputies investigated and found the male subject of the home had fled before their arrival. A female was still present. When deputies entered the residence, they found a four year old child who had been severely abused. The child was transported by Lenoir County EMS for treatment and detectives conducted the investigation.
2. Lenoir County fires claim one life, injures another
At approximately 12:20 this afternoon, North Lenoir Fire Rescue, La Grange Volunteer Fire Department, and Hugo Volunteer Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Highway 258 North near Dobbs Farm Road. Today’s fire follows a fire yesterday in La Grange where an unidentified person was rescued. La Grange Volunteer Fire Department and North Lenoir Fire Rescue responded to that call.
1. Construction begins on Kinston Starbucks
Construction is underway that will transform the long-vacant RadioShack building on West Vernon Avenue into Kinston’s first Starbucks. A Starbucks spokesman confirmed work had begun, and said the location will be open by the fall of 2020.
