NWS: Weak front will bring showers, potential, damaging winds, large hail, and torrential downpours
A weak front moving into NC today will produce scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. The thunderstorms will have the potential to produce damaging winds, large hail, and torrential downpours.
The Storm Prediction Center has issued a Slight Risk of Severe Thunderstorms (Level 2 of 5) for all of eastern NC today. In addition, The NWS in Morehead City/Newport has issued a Flash Flood Watch for most of eastern NC. The strongest thunderstorms will have the potential to produce over 2 inches of rainfall in an hour which could lead to flash flooding.
Showers and thunderstorms with heavy downpours will remain in the forecast through the weekend with an additional threat for flooding in urban and poor drainage areas.
