This week is National Friends of Libraries week, and we are truly fortunate to have the support of a wonderful local Friends group, the Kinston-Lenoir County Friends of the Library. As library staff, we would like to take this opportunity to tell you more about this important organization and how you can be a part of it!
Welcome back to the second installment of our six-month series, "The Path to Purpose." Last month, we delved into the importance of self-discovery and how understanding yourself is the first step toward a more fulfilling life. I hope you found the self-assessment and journaling exercises insightful. This month, we're taking it further by focusing on finding your purpose.
This coming Saturday will be a busy time on Herritage Street. Three noteworthy events will allow people to eat, either run or watch races, and enjoy music while celebrating the life of a Kinston entrepreneur.
Personally, I do not need a reason to love oysters, I already do and always look forward to a fall oyster roast in the crisp fall air. I long ago learned the proper way to shuck an oyster and enjoy!! Oysters are the shelled gem of the sea; they have a very unique chewy texture and a salty briny taste.

Lara Lang Tribula, a long-time resident of Lenoir County and an employee of the State Employees' Credit Union, embodies the spirit of service and commitment.

Fresh figs are a Southern favorite, and if you are lucky enough to snag some before the birds and insects, then you are very lucky. Fresh figs have a pretty short window of availability in the south, so pick them when you see them!! If you are worried about the figs going bad before you use them, then stick them in the freezer.
