Alton "Mickey" Parker Davis, Jr., 80, of Kinston, North Carolina passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2023. Obituary: Carol Morris Wells

Mrs. Carol Morris Wells, age 79, passed away Sunday evening, September 24th, 2023, at Lenoir UNC Health Care in Kinston. Funeral services will be held graveside 2 PM Thursday, September 28th, at the Maury Cemetery with Pastor Allen Ham officiating. The family will receive friends and extended family at the cemetery immediately following the service.

Pursuant to G.S. 115C-518 and 160A-269, the Lenoir County Board of Education hereby gives notice that it has received an offer to purchase the Teacher’s Memorial School property owned by the Lenoir County Board of Education.  The property’s street address is 500 Marcella Drive Kinston, NC 28501. The offer to purchase is in the amount of One Hundred Fifty-One Thousand Dollars ($151,000.00). Notice is hereby given that prior to September 28, 2023, at 4:00 PM, any person may raise the bid by not less than ten percent (10%) of the first one thousand dollars ($1000) and five percent (5%) of the remainder ($150,000). Therefore, the lowest acceptable upset bid is One Hundred Fifty-Eight Thousand Six Hundred Dollars ($158,600.00).

Library Offers Free, Fast-Paced Chess Tournament to Public

Since April of this year, Neuse Regional Libraries have seen an extremely enthusiastic response from the community for Chess Club, a new weekly meeting of chess players of all ages, backgrounds, and experience levels. Every week upwards of 25 players gather to play casual games and exchange tips, while newcomers can learn how to play and get some invaluable over-the-board experience in a laid-back environment.
