KPD executes narcotics search warrant, seizes drugs and stolen property
On Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at approximately 12:24 PM, the Kinston Police Department’s D-Squad and Investigators executed a narcotics search warrant at a residence on the 400 block of Taylor Lane in Kinston. The warrant followed an investigation revealing that Benjamin Tyson, 41, of Kinston, was operating a drug distribution operation.
Jonathan Britt joins board of education after Monday evening oath
Jonathan Britt was sworn in as a new member of the Lenoir County Public Schools Board of Education during a board meeting Monday evening, joining other elected representatives responsible for district policy, budget oversight and academic standards.
Chophouse 222 pre-opening reservations available
Chophouse 222, located at 222 N. Herritage Street in downtown Kinston, North Carolina, is announcing limited pre-opening reservations for holiday gatherings. Although the restaurant has not officially opened, prospective patrons can book reservations for Christmas and New Year’s events between December 13, 2024, and January 6, 2025.
The Counter offers southern-inspired dishes in downtown Kinston
A new restaurant from chef and author Vivian Howard has opened in downtown Kinston. The Counter at Chef & the Farmer, located at 120 W. Gordon St., began operations Thursday through Sunday, noon to 8 p.m., offering a menu built around local and seasonal ingredients. It occupies the space formerly held by Chef & the Farmer’s wine and gift shop.
Obituary: Juanita Rose
Juanita Rose, 87, reached her heavenly home on Tuesday evening, December 3, 2024. A service to honor and celebrate Juanita’s life will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 12, 2024 at Rouse Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service.

On Sunday, December 8, 2024, at approximately 8:27 PM, officers from A-Squad responded to a report of a vehicle that had collided with a structure. A witness at the scene reported that the driver fled the area after the collision.
Kinston man arrested after firing shots and fleeing scene
On Sunday, December 8, 2024, at approximately 2:57 AM, officers from A-Squad responded to the 800 block of Tulip Lane after receiving a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the reporting party, who identified Reginald Williams, 45, of Kinston, as the individual who discharged a firearm inside the residence before fleeing the scene.

Three arrested in Kinston on drug charges, LCSO reports
On Thursday and Friday, the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office’s narcotics unit and Street Crimes and Ready Response (SCARR) unit arrested three individuals on drug charges: Brandy Hansley, 37, of Kinston; Victor Strickland, 57, of Kinston; and Matthew Whaley, 34, of Kinston.
Scammer impersonates LCSO lieutenant, demands cryptocurrency payments for fines
The Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office is aware of a scammer calling county residents claiming to be a lieutenant with the LCSO. The scam involves an individual threatening residents by claiming they have an order for arrest for missing jury duty.
