Last week, the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office proudly participated in Read Across America Week by visiting local schools to read to students and promote the importance of literacy. Sheriff Jackie Rogers and deputies spent time in classrooms, engaging with young learners and sharing their favorite books to encourage a lifelong love of reading.

Mrs. Laverne Harper Strickland, age 92, passed away Monday morning, March 10, 2025, at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. Funeral Services will be held graveside 2 PM Thursday, March 13th, at the Snow Hill Cemetery with Pastor Roy Graves officiating. Kinston Community Health Center’s mobile health clinic has been providing essential healthcare on the last Thursday of each month, since the summer of 2024. A provider sees patients from 10 AM to 4 PM at various locations. Available services include family health, maternal health, and more. KCHC’s mission is to provide accessible, high-quality healthcare to underserved areas, ensuring that all residents have the medical support they need.

On March 9, 2025, at approximately 4:36 p.m., officers from the Kinston Police Department’s D-Squad responded to a motor vehicle crash in the parking lot of the Piggly Wiggly on North Herritage Street. Before officers arrived, they were informed that one of the drivers had left the scene.
On March 8, 2025, at approximately 1:10 a.m., officers from the Kinston Police Department’s B-Squad conducted a traffic stop on Highway 258 South after a vehicle nearly struck an officer’s patrol car.
On March 7, 2025, at approximately 12:57 a.m., officers from the Kinston Police Department’s B-Squad conducted a traffic stop on a stolen vehicle. The vehicle had been reported stolen to KPD on July 17, 2024.
A proactive enforcement operation in Lenoir County that included the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office SCARR (Street Crimes and Ready Response) unit, along with the LCSO’s Narcotics and General Investigations Division (GID), resulted in the arrest of two people on Thursday.
The magic takes place at the Little Union Academy of Martial Arts – but the competition will take place in the gym at Kinston High School from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 22.
